Bidding Guide

Placing a bid

  • All bidding takes place online. Bidding start times and closing times are shown on the website.
  • Once the registration is approved by Allsop and the £3,000 bidder security has been received, you can submit bids by clicking the 'Place Bid' button on the lot page.
  • Your bid will be set at the next pre-determined increment, minimum of £1,000, however, bidders have the option to adjust the bid using the + and - buttons.
  • You cannot cancel a bid once it has been submitted. You may adjust the maximum of an Auto-bid entered upwards, in situations when the current bidding is still below the submitted maximum bid amount.
  • Bids beneath the Reserve Price Range will not be accepted.

  • If you know the maximum amount that you want to bid and are unable to bid at the time of the lot closing, you can enter an automatic bid, once the bidding has opened, with a pre-set maximum amount that is hidden on the website.
  • Bids will then be automatically entered for you to outbid other bidders as they bid against you, only as needed and at the appropriate increments.
  • Bids will only be entered for you as necessary to keep your place as the winning bidder, up to your maximum bid price.
  • If you are out bid, we will notify you. You can then bid again.

Why Auto-bid?

  • Our Auto-Bid system makes bidding convenient so you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time someone places a bid higher than yours.
  • Please note, if your maximum bid is at least the reserve price, we will automatically increase your bid to meet the reserve, and bidding may continue from there.

Lot closing

  • Lots will close sequentially through the day of the auction.
  • The end date and time along with a countdown are displayed on the lot page.
  • Bidding will close once the countdown has finished and the highest bid is not challenged for at least 60 seconds. See Bidding Extensions below.
  • Once the bidding on a lot closes, your screen will either state that you are the successful / unsuccessful bidder. All successful and unsuccessful bidders will be notified by email once the lot closes.
  • The Reserve Price will not be disclosed until it has been met.

Bid extensions

  • Any bid placed within the final 60 seconds, of a lot closing, will extend the bidding for a further 60 seconds from that moment.
  • There is no limit to the number of possible extensions.
